The One That Survived

Recently I did a ceremonial burning of my journals. As I bunched pages and added them to the fire, I kept my vision focused on what was burning. (Partly out of spiritual dedication, but also for the obvious practical reasons.) In my lap, I held the pile of pages that I was feeding to the fire.

Unexpectedly, and for no reason I was aware of at the time, I felt compelled to look down. The page that sat on the top held the following entry:

Learning to live peacefully with discomfort, without taking action against it, ourselves, each other, or our world teaches:

Simplicity: make life less complicated
Compassion: make life less about you
Vulnerability: make like more authentic
Calm: make life healthier
Loving Presence: make life truly meaningful

Now, it too is free to go.
